The Railway Board’s letter supra gives detailed provisions of MACPS as also clarifies a numbers of related issues. The Union finance minister has finally approved the cadre restructuring in the central board of excise and customs (CBEC). The cadre restructuring was in the pipeline for seven years. With the approval, over 18,000 new posts are expected to be created in the department across the country. In Gujarat, four new commissionerates are likely to be added in the Ahmedabad zone. Presently there are 10 commisionerates of central excise, one of service tax and three commissionerates of appeals in Ahmedabad and Vadodara zones. According to sources, the new commissionerates are expected to be three of audit, one each with Ahmedabad I, II and III commissionerates and a new central excise commissioner in Kutch. At present, Kutch comes under the Jamnagar commissionerate. Meanwhile, no new commissionerates are likely to be added in the service tax or customs in Gujarat. In order to get revised pensionary benefits with effect from 1.1.2006, Pre-2006 Pensioners approached Central Administrative Tribunal again which issued suitable orders to Governement to revise the pension with effect from 1.1.2006. This order was challenged by Government before Hon’ble High Court. However, CAT’s decision was once again upheld by Hon’ble High Court. Government had filed a SLP before Hon’ble Supreme Court against the order of High Court. This SLP was dismissed by Apex Court in the initial stage itslef. This dismissal order of Apex Court was sought to be reviewed by filing Review Petition. The Review Petition was also dismissed by Hon’ble Supreme Court.
