NMC urges PM to constitute committee for 7th Pay Commission

The National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to set up a committee for the Seventh Pay Commission, before the Model Code of Conduct for the general elections comes into effect.

"We urge the PM to immediately constitute a committee for the Seventh Pay Commission, before the applicability of Model Code for the next general elections. The decision in this regard should be taken in the next cabinet meeting," NMC president Subash Shastri said at a rally here today.

Pleading the cause of both central and state government employees and pensioners, Shastri also urged the Prime Minister to adhere to the recommendations of earlier pay commissions to merge 50 per cent DA into the basic pay and pension.

There remains no point in delaying the constitution of the Seventh Pay Commission as the Prime Minister has already made the announcement, he said, adding that any delay would create adverse impression in the minds of lakhs of employees and pensioners.

The NMC leader stressed the need for early sanction of 20 per cent interim relief in favour of central and state government employees and pensioners in view of the steep hike in the prices of essential commodities.

He also urged the PM to provide special package to states for meeting the expenditure so that there are no financial constraints on them while providing interim relief to state government employees and pensioners.
