Govt likely to give Dearness Allowance arrears on 18 months soon: ABP news

ABP News has reported that the government may soon restore the pending Dearness Allowance, which is great news for millions of central government employees around the country (DA). Employees are currently entitled to a 31 per cent Dearness Allowance. From January 2020 to June 2021, employees did not receive arrears. The union government is anticipated to make a decision in this matter during a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary.

This year's Cabinet Secretary meeting will take place on December 24, just before Christmas. According to media sources, the council has requested that, in addition to restoring the DA, a one-time payment be made on the 18-month-old DA arrears.

The Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers has published the charter of demands for the nationwide strike and the first point is "Payment of Arrears of DA/DR withheld from January -2020 to June-2021"

The Finance Ministry decided in April 2020, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, to freeze DA, which was given as per the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for 50 lakh central government employees and dearness relief for 61 lakh pensioners till July 2021. The DA was supposed to be hiked three times - from January 2020, July 2020, and January 2021 during that period.

The Staff Side of the National Council JCM had lately demanded that the rise be made retroactive and that the arrears for the frozen period be reimbursed. Earlier, it was reported that the officials are extremely accommodating when it comes to the DA arrears payment, based on informal negotiations.
