Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has unveiled the UPSC CDS-I Recruitment 2024 notification, aiming to fill 457 vacancies in the Combined Defence Services. The Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2024, will be conducted by UPSC shortly. Eligible and interested candidates are invited to apply online from 20/12/2023 to 09/01/2024.

Educational Qualification:

  • I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy, Chennai: Any Graduate Degree or equivalent.
  • Indian Naval Academy: B.E/B.Tech (Degree in Engineering) / M.E/M.Tech.
  • Air Force Academy: Any Degree (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or B.E/B.Tech (Bachelor of Engineering).

The pay scale for Army Officers and equivalent ranks in the Air Force and Navy:

  • Lieutenant: ₹56,100 - ₹1,77,500
  • Captain: ₹61,300 - ₹1,93,900
  • Major: ₹69,400 – ₹2,07,200
  • Lieutenant Colonel: ₹1,21,200 – ₹2,12,400
  • Colonel: ₹1,30,600 - ₹2,15,900
  • Brigadier: ₹1,39,600 - ₹2,17,600
  • Major General: ₹1,44,200 - ₹2,18,200
  • Lieutenant General HAG Scale: ₹1,82,200 – ₹2,24,100
  • HAG+Scale: ₹2,05,400 – ₹2,24,400
  • VCOAS / Army Cdr / Lieutenant General (NFSG): ₹2,25,000
  • COAS: ₹2,50,000
  • Military Service Pay (MSP) to officers from Lieutenant to Brigadier: ₹15,500
  • Stipend to Gentlemen or Lady Cadets during the entire training period at IMA and OTA: ₹56,100

Age limit:

  • IMA & Indian Naval Academy: Candidates born between 2nd January 2001 and 1st January 2006.
  • Air Force Academy: 20 to 24 Years as on 1st January 2025 (born between 2nd January 2001 and 1st January 2005).

September AI CPI-IW out. DA Expected to Cross 50% from January 2024

The Labour Bureau has published the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for the month of September 2023. The All-India CPI-IW declined by 1.7 points in September 2023, from 139.2 in August 2023. Based on the indices till August 2023, the expected DA for central government employees from January 2024 was expected to cross 50%. However, even with the CPI-IW declining by 1.7 points in October 2023, still the DA can be 50% from January 2024. However, the chances of it becoming 51% is less. For the calculation of the DA, CPI-IW indices for 12 months, i.e. January 2023 to December 2024 are required. The indices for three more months are required to calculate the exact DA. Based on the indices till September 2023, the expected DA for central government employees from January 2024 is almost certain to cross 50%.
